Dear Mr. Boxhill,

I wish to present a profile of the Vernley Ward Nominee 2002 - Ms. Ahiliyia Permaul.

Ahiliyia Permaul (D.O.B. 14th January, 1984) entered Form 1D at Queen's College in September 1995, on the basis of her outstanding performance at Secondary Schools Entrance Examination (SSEE). Queen's College accepts the top two percent of the successful candidates at the SSEE.

Ahiliyia has had an impressive academic record. She maintained an average of 80% and above and ranked in the top three of her class in the junior school. She pursued a Science programme with Agricultural Science as a technical option for CSEC/CXC. Her results at CSEC/CXC in May/June 2000 were as follows:

Agricultural Science (DA) Grade 1
Biology Grade 1
Chemistry Grade 1
English A (Language) Grade 1
English B (Literature) Grade 1
French Grade 1
Mathematics Grade 1
Physics Grade 1
Social Studies Grade 1

With these outstanding results, Ahiliyia ranked in the top five performers for both Queen's College and Guyana. Furthermore, she was adjudged by the Caribbean Examinations Council as "The Most Outstanding in the Science Subjects for CSEC 2000." Ahiliyia had the distinct privilege of receiving her award at the Regional Awards Ceremony held at the Sam Lord's Castle Resort, Barbados on December 7, 2000.

Ahiliyia maintained a credible standard of performance on entering the Lower Sixth in October, 2000 to pursue the CAPE/EDEXCEL Programme. In May/June 2001 she achieved results thus:

CAPE Biology Unit 1 Grade III
Chemistry Unit 1 Grade IV
EDEXCEL/GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level
Mathematics with Mechanics Grade C
Physics Grade A

With determination to excel, Ahiliyia pursued her subjects, at the Upper Sixth Level and her results in May/June, 2002 attest to her maturity and academic prowess:

CAPE Biology Unit 2 Grade II
Biology Unit 2 Grade I
Chemistry Unit 1 Grade I
Chemistry Unit 2 Grade I
EDEXCEL/GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level
Mathematics with Mechanics Grade D
Physics Grade C

Complementing her high academic achievement is commendable participation in extra-curricular activities. Ahiliyia has been a reliable and supportive member of D'Urban (D) House. Records reveal that Ahiliyia played table tennis, cricket and volleyball for the House. At Inter-House Sports she has participated in the March Past and Relays. At Inter-House Sports in 1999 she was a member of the victorious 4x100 Under 17 Female Relay Team.

In addition to Sports, Ahiliyia has participated in Elocution and Spelling Bee Competitions. Ahiliyia was a member of the Senior Team (14-16 years) of Queen's College in the "Air Jamaica Spelling Bee" Competition held in Barbados in June/July 2000. You will recall with pride, that QCOSA representatives of Reunion 2000, Guyana were on site to welcome the Champions home!

Ahiliyia is enrolled as a First Year Medical Student at the University of Guyana and we are confident that she will excel in this programme.

It is with confidence and pride that I present Ms. Ahiliyia Permaul to the New York Chapter as the Vernley Ward Bursary Nominee for 2002.

Reginae Collegium!

Yours truly,
Wendel Roberts
