Fire Fund Appeal

Canada

Thursday, November 27, 1997

Dear Alumni:

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the destruction by fire of our Alma Mater, Queen's College on Sunday, November 16, 1997. Approximately 60% of the building were destroyed at an estimated loss of GUY $500 million.

The shock and distress with which this news was received, not only by students, former students, parents, and teachers, but by the society at large is testimony to the power that Queen's College exerts on public consciousness. A Guyana without QC would be a nation diminished. We as former students share the loss of an institution that gave us the educational foundation to succeed in today's society, It is our obligation to contribute generously to restore our Alma Mater so that it may retain its pride, esprit de corps and traditions of excellence.

We are therefore asking to support our fundraising target of CAN$50,000.00. Donations of $25.00 or more will get a tax receipt, so you are able to support this fund not only by sending a personal donation but also by soliciting donations from your circles of influence (friends, colleagues, associates, etc.)

We are enclosing a specimen fundraising letter to be included on your letterhead for you to solicit contributions. You may tailor it to suit your needs. We ask that you make your appeal before the Xmas season.

Your contributions (cheques only please) can be made payable to: "Queen’s College Alumni Association for Fire Fund (Canada)" and sent to:
