APPRECIATION EVENING Sunday, February 6th 2000 |
|||
Guyanese born Ovid Jackson, Federal Member of Parliament. was the guest
speaker at the 2nd Annual Appreciation Evening. Addressing a large number
of alumni and guests, he said that he is convinced that the high quality
of education students received at one of Guyana's leading educational
institutions prepared them for the challenges which they now proudly face
and conquer in Canada.
“There is no doubt that many of you brought many skills to this country. The solid educational grounding you received laid the foundation for you to be just as good or even better than most Canadians in your adopted homeland. He also congratulated the Association for acknowledging the volunteer work of its members and friends. "Recognition by peers means more than money sometimes and the contribution by volunteers should never be underestimated," added the Hon. Jackson, who migrated from Guyana in 1965. He was a former Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and is currently Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Health. |
