Heartiest congratulations to
Amlata Persaud for her sterling performance in topping the entire region in the 1999 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, formerly CXC examinations (equivalent to GCE- O Levels). Amlata, who gained eleven grade ones, also won for the most outstanding candidate in the humanities subjects. Congratulations to
Kevin Persaud and
Leah Bovell who respectively captured the regional awards for science and business education.
Amlata also took the top individual prize the Air Jamaica spelling-bee competition held in Barbados at the end of June. Queen’s won both team competitions, for the 10-13 and 14 - 16 age groups, with Nadine Nelson and Kiran Mattai coming third in the individual 14 - 16 and 10 - 13 competitions respectively.
So despite the educational problems that afflict the school and Guyana in general, Queen’s is still able to maintain a dominant position in the region.
