ICQC ANNUAL MEETING - 2001
... well-crafted thunderbolts!!!

The ICQC annual meeting was held on Sunday September 30 2001 with 40 + members from the chapters. Laurie Lewis welcomed the delegates and thanked the Canadian chapter for hosting the reunion weekend. He also mentioned that all alumni were especially relieved when they learnt that Gordon Wilson escaped safely from the World Trade Centre on September 11th.

He also thanked Leyland Muss and Ian Wishart for the sterling contribution they have made to the ICQC organization since its formation and made special mention of Aubrey Bishop, Past President of the QCOSA who always had a dream of an international organization and was instrumental in working towards its fruition.

Bobby Moore, a past master of Queen’s gave the opening address. He touched on some aspects of the school and its teachings during the Colonial era where students who were given the tools to preserve the Empire, used them to dismantle it. He also discussed the roles that Capt. Nobbs, V.J. Sanger Davies, Norman Cameron, H.A.M. Beckles played during this era. Bobby also made reference to James Cameron Tudor, a black Barbadian, as an urbane, lordly man of the world, a Pied Piper of a raconteur, a maestro at debate. Grooming his students for big things to come, he turned his upper school history classes into mini-Houses of Commons where young men imagined themselves as Gladstones and Disraelis hurling well-crafted thunderbolts at each other.

Laurie reported that the QCOSA runs a feeding program that caters for 40 students at a cost of G$180,000 per month. He also brought the meeting up to date on the computer room at the school and mentioned that some alumni had volunteered their time to run the programs. However, he noted, that unreliable delivery of electricity was a major problem for the program.

He mentioned that the musical instruments, donated by the Canadian Chapter and the laboratory equipment, donated by the New York Chapter, were being utilized. He also mentioned that the music room would be renamed the Lynette Dolphin Music Room. He also discussed the rebuilding programme and mentioned that G$15 million of the G$50 million had been received. He further mentioned that construction had halted mid July and materials was being removed from the site.

The other heads of delegations gave their reports also. There were many questions to Laurie concerning the school. However, because of time constraints arising on account of travel schedules for the out of country delegations, discussion was cut short prematurely.

The following officers of ICQC were reelected: Leyland Muss, Administrative Coordinator, Gordon Wilson, Communications Coordinator and Wilton Nedd, Fund Raising Coordinator.

The next annual meeting of ICQC will be held in Washington on June 29 2002.
